Listening to Suggestions
In English, people use special phrases to make plans and suggestions. When you are listening, it’s important to catch these phrases. They tell you what the main idea of the conversation is.
The most common phrase to suggest an activity is “Let’s…”

What do Rina and Jane agree to do on Saturday?

Explanation:
The correct answer is B. Jane makes the suggestion using the phrase “Let’s go to the cinema.” Rina agrees by saying, “That’s a good idea.”
Tips for Success
Here are three simple tips to help you understand weekend plans.
- Listen for Suggestion Phrases. Pay attention to “Let’s…” and “What about…?” The activity is usually right after these words.
- Listen for Agreement. Words or phrases like “Good idea,” “Okay,” and “Sure” mean the people agree to do the activity.
- Listen for Disagreement. Phrases like “Sorry, I can’t” or “Maybe next time” mean they will not do the activity.
