Speaking
Activity 1: Warm-Up
- Divide the class into small groups.
- Each group selects an object in the classroom without telling the others.
- Group members take turns giving clues to describe the object and its position. For example:
- “It’s small and made of plastic. It’s on the teacher’s desk.”
- “It’s next to the window and has a red cover.”
- The other groups try to guess the object.
Activity 2: Pair Work – Describe and Guess
Instructions:
- Pair up students. One student describes an object in the classroom, their bag, or their home without naming it. They must include its position. For example:
- “It’s a rectangular object, usually made of metal or plastic. It’s under my notebook in my bag.”
- The partner guesses the object.
- Switch roles after 3 turns.
Activity 3: Role Play – Lost and Found
Instructions:
- Students work in pairs. One student plays the role of a person who lost an item, and the other is their friend helping to find it.
- Use phrases like:
- “Where did you last see it?”
- “Is it under the couch?”
- “It’s not there, but maybe it’s in your bag.”
- Example conversation:
- A: “I can’t find my phone. Have you seen it?”
- B: “No, but maybe it’s on the dining table. You were there earlier.”
Activity 4: Group Activity – Picture Description Challenge
Objective: Practice describing objects and their positions in a picture.
Instructions:
- Divide the class into small groups and give each group a picture (e.g., a living room, a kitchen, or a classroom scene).
- Each group takes turns describing objects in the picture using phrases like:
- “The lamp is on the table next to the couch.”
- “There are three books on the shelf above the TV.”
- The other groups listen and identify the object being described.
